The transport sector is currently responsible for one third of the EU's carbon dioxide emissions, and growth in the sector is negating reductions made in other economic sectors (industrial and domestic). Without alternative road fuels, such as biodiesel, growth in the EU's gas (GHG) emissions will be dominated by the transport sector, which will contribute up to 60% of all new emissions.
One hectare of jatropha grove [1,000 plants] will produce a reduction of 8 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of two cars. |
