Viridas PLC (Viridas) is developing, in Brazil, industrial scale Jatropha groves using state of the art Agronomy. The company plans to become a leading international supplier of Crude Jatropha Oil (CJO) to the emerging BioDiesel esterification Industry.
Since December 2006 Viridas has carried out extensive research on Jatropha, established essential strategic partnerships, and prepared detailed plans for the implementation of fully mechanised Jatropha groves in the North East of Brazil.
Currently, the groups subsidiary company, Viridas Brasil Agronegocios Ltda (Viridas Brazil), based in Sao Paulo, is developing the groups self managed trial grove in Minas Gerais, to verify all essential inputs, prior to rolling out industrial scale Jatropha groves in the first half 2009.
Viridas’s traditional business has been international trade in textiles. Ongoing deteriorating terms of trade in the textile industry led Viridas to decided, in 2006, to liquidate it’s textile interests and reposition the group in the Biodiesel industry. Viridas has already relinquished most of its textile activities and expects to be totally out of the business by the end of 2008.
